City of London Overview ..................................
- London is located in Southern Ontario above Lake Erie. It was chosen as the future capital of the province in 1793 by John Graves Simcoe, but it was not until 1826 that the City was incorporated.
- A Rebellion broke out in 1837, the catalyst for the location of a British garrison in the City which was also threatened by invasion from the United States.
- In 1861, with the City in the depths of a depression, the American Civil war provided an opportunity for growth. The rich agricultural disposition of London led to the supply of food to the US Northern Army. The new found prosperity was soon seen in the fine new institutions and financial companies which rapidly grew.
- Since the end of World War II, London has experienced very rapid growth with a current population of 336,000. New industries include Automotive, Agrifood, Call Centres, Information Technology and Life Sciences, in addition to traditionally strong Financial Services firms.
Project Overview..............................................
-
The City selected J.D. Edwards in 1998. At the the time, JDE OneWorld® did not have adequate functionality to meet the Canadian Payroll needs of the City.
-
In this event, it was decided to implement JDE in two phases. In Phase One, Payroll and HR were implemented in JDE World on an AS/400 and the other modules using Oneworld® in a Fat Client, NT server, configuration. Phase Two, would bring the World modules into OneWorld® once the functionality was there.
-
The first phase took about a year to complete and the City operated in this coexistent environment for a year and a half. In January 2001, Phase 2 was started. In this Phase the World modules were moved from the AS/400 to NT Server and Oneworld® XE and the other modules upgraded from B7.3.2 to OneWorld® XE. Phase 2 also involved extensive development which resulted in several propriety products.
